# Privacy and venue data

> What a key can and cannot see.

Keys read Arena-owned data only. Two switches shape the responses: each account's privacy setting, and the venue-data switch.

## Private accounts

Accounts are private by default, and no key can make one public.

| Case | What `GET /traders/{traderId}` returns |

| Private trader | `private: true`, `displayName` and every number `null`, no resets, and a `note` explaining why. Picks are an empty list. |
| Public, earlier trades still hidden | `numbersShown: false`: no balance, P\&L or rank. |
| Public, all trades visible | Full record. |

The key owner always sees their own data under `portfolio:read`. On the owner's own picks, `placedPrivate` says the pick was placed while private, and `shown` says whether others can see it now.

## Settled picks

[`GET /traders/{traderId}/picks`](/api-reference/records/get-a-traders-settled-picks) lists won, lost and void picks only. No exchange tickers, titles or entry prices:

* `marketLabel` is Arena's own label (`KC ML`, `KC -3.5`, `Over 44.5`), or `null` with `marketLabelReason`.
* `stakeDollars` is `null` on won and void picks, because with the P\&L it would reveal the entry price.
* `instrumentId` links to an Arena instrument when one exists, else `null`.

## Venue data

Venue market ids, side ids and venue prices are served only while the venue-data switch is on. **It is currently off.** While off:

* [`GET /quotes`](/api-reference/markets/get-quotes-for-several-instruments) and [`GET /instruments/{ref}/quotes`](/api-reference/markets/get-an-instruments-quotes) answer `403 venue_data_off`.
* No keyed response names a ticker or a venue's price.
* Responses that could carry venue data include `venueData: false`.

Instruments, games, and the owner's own portfolio numbers (for example a resting order's `limitCents`, or a position's `costDollars` and `contracts`) are served regardless.
